NEWS02/04 2010 : CARA®-AWARD FOR BASIX Press release: CARA®-AWARD FOR BASIX Basix’ new album “Diversity” won the prestigious international CARA-award for “Best European Album”. The title song of the album became runner up for the award for “Best original professional song”. The annual Contemporary A cappella Recording Awards (CARA) recognize the best of recorded a cappella music. It is the only truly global a cappella recording award. Every year since 1992 hundreds of albums are considered in this celebration of the best a cappella recorded around the planet. The CARA mission reflects that of its parent organization, the Contemporary A cappella Society (CASA): They aim to reward artists that create outstanding work and to promote innovation, creativity, and continued growth of the a cappella modality. Furthermore, they aim to foster the a cappella community by having its best and brightest participate in the CARA nomination and judging process. It is the fourth time Basix receives a CARA award for their outstanding work. In 2003 the group’s version of “Come together” on the album “Embodiment” received the CARA for “Best cover song” and in 2005 Basix was rewarded two CARAs for “Best holiday album” and “Best holiday song” for their Christmas album “Christmastime” and the song “God rest ye merry gentlemen”. A HUGE STEP FORWARD With their 5th. album “Diversity”, Basix has taken a huge step in their professional carreer. For the first time the 6 singers have decided to put out an album with all original songs where all lyrics and music are written by the members themselves. This makes it even more extraordinary that the album “Diversity” is chosen as the very best that Europe has to offer, taken into consideration that most a cappella groups still tend to rely on the hit songs of other artists, rather than writing the music themselves. Basix is indeed “an exquisite world class a cappella group” as Ove Nørhave from the Danish newspaper “Nordjyske” put it in his 6 star review of the now CARA-award winning album. Spanning pop, jazz, r&b, soul, and rock these six Danish vocalists continue to amaze an ever-increasing number of listeners around the world. TOURING ALL OVER THE WORLD Basix strong vocal performance, which runs the whole gamut of emotions has dazzled audiences in a vast number of concert halls, theaters, clubs, cafés, churches, and at conferences and private events. So far the group has given concerts in U.S.A, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Holland, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Slovakia and Cyprus, and every year the popularity of the group keeps growing. APPEARANCES A memorable performance in the precompetion for the Eurovision Song Contest broadcast live on national TV in the spring of 2001, kick-started the career of the six vocalists. Since their honorable second place in the competition, Basix has performed several times in the radio and on national TV. For example in “The great christmas show” in 2004 and 2005, where they performed with international artists such as Gawin DeGraw, Sissel, Mick Hucknall, Beth Hart and Lucie Silvas, and this has resulted in the group’s current status as one of Scandinavia´s premier ensembles.
